Word has doubtless reached you concerning that mysterious rogue, The Sable Valentine, who besides interrupting the gala last evening, is also suspected of abducting Mlle. Giselle Prîdieux. We have, of course, requisitioned all correspondence, private journals, and other documentation of a projected 80,000 words from the various parties who knew Mlle. Prîdieux, (excepting those of her sometime fiancé, Dr. Theophilus Snow, who laughingly refused).
As yet, we know little of The Sable Valentine: who he is, what he wants, what his – or indeed, the seemingly upright Mlle. Prîdieux’s involvement may be with the recent string of drugged and debauched parties (although a history of, shall we say, “addiction” as well as genius is not unknown in her family) – parties at which, it has been reported, magic has occurred. That this case should happen now, so near the election and the sudden return of the lost prince, and in the middle of our continuing investigation of those d—nable fires that keep plaguing our town - all of which threaten to pour over into three volumes - our offices are simply overwhelmed and much in need of your assistance.
For myself, I have set pen to paper previously, writing the high fantasy novels, Niamh and the Hermit and Charming the Moon, available from Arx Publishing, LLC, and the tongue-in-cheek Nachtstürm Castle ~ A Gothic Austen Novel, published by Girlebooks.com. My plays, too, have found a home at Playscripts, Inc., including the award-winning Wallace’s Will, a comedy of manners in the style of Oscar Wilde.
Should you consider lending your aid to our endeavour, I would be glad to send you what letters we have requisitioned thus far.
Until then, I remain your servant,

Query Letter
Since I want to see if I can format the newspapers to put up here...I'll begin with my draft of my query letter, instead.
