Letters 38-42

This is does not conclude Giselle's account of going to the opera, although it begins it. The opera account is 1) long and 2) wicked important. But it fulfills and exceeds my word-to-date goal! *fingers crossed for the future!*

Edited to add: A quick note on the side by Nauld Dumain re: Giselle's going on and on and on about what clothes she wore.

The Newspapers Giselle May Have Included

These should probably go before Edda Lufada, but there you are! Just a little snippet, but boy do newspapers take FOREVER to put together. (Fun, though!)

Just FYI: esp. on Happenny Press, Thine Ocular and The Reverendant Reporter, I haven't bothered to go and correct every date, page number, etc. I can do that in revision.

Enjoy!

The Program for Edda Lufada

I kind of love this. It was written a bit ago, but it introduces the idea of the Sable Valentine! Aaaaand it lampoons much of what I love most. Enjoy!

Letters 28-37

This combines some new and old territory - but I'm coming to the end of augmenting any of my word count with previous writings (eek!). That said, my goal today was 22,811 and I'm at 23,306.

I have some thought of continuing on tonight to do some newspapers and including Edda Lufada (which I've done already) for today/tomorrow/a day that gets too crazy to try to do this. It's like paying bills and trying to stay just a little ahead when times are good.

Letters 20-27

This part...is all new. So for those of you who've read The Sable Valentine in its various incarnations before...voila! Howsomever, do tell me if it seems too expositiony. C'est ca. No looking back, right? NaNoWriMo!

Oh, it should also be noted that I've no idea why the typography doubled in the ending letter. Ah ca!

Letters 8-19

This is a big one, folks! However, it's one of my favorite parts of the novel (as written so far...!) I apologize for any inconsistencies in worldbuilding spellings; again, I'm attempting not to revise, but to just move forward.

Feedback is SO welcome!

Reinhold's Response & Newspapers

Edited to add: There's now a note re: the Ladies' Egalite, which mostly is there to show the months. However, I do need to figure out a way to put a really good calendar in there for people's help. Argh. Suggestions welcome!

Prologue

Query Letter

Since I want to see if I can format the newspapers to put up here...I'll begin with my draft of my query letter, instead.

Word has doubtless reached you concerning that mysterious rogue, The Sable Valentine, who besides interrupting the gala last evening, is also suspected of abducting Mlle. Giselle Prîdieux. We have, of course, requisitioned all correspondence, private journals, and other documentation of a projected 80,000 words from the various parties who knew Mlle. Prîdieux, (excepting those of her sometime fiancé, Dr. Theophilus Snow, who laughingly refused).

As yet, we know little of The Sable Valentine: who he is, what he wants, what his – or indeed, the seemingly upright Mlle. Prîdieux’s involvement may be with the recent string of drugged and debauched parties (although a history of, shall we say, “addiction” as well as genius is not unknown in her family) – parties at which, it has been reported, magic has occurred. That this case should happen now, so near the election and the sudden return of the lost prince, and in the middle of our continuing investigation of those d—nable fires that keep plaguing our town - all of which threaten to pour over into three volumes - our offices are simply overwhelmed and much in need of your assistance.

For myself, I have set pen to paper previously, writing the high fantasy novels, Niamh and the Hermit and Charming the Moon, available from Arx Publishing, LLC, and the tongue-in-cheek Nachtstürm Castle ~ A Gothic Austen Novel, published by Girlebooks.com. My plays, too, have found a home at Playscripts, Inc., including the award-winning Wallace’s Will, a comedy of manners in the style of Oscar Wilde.

Should you consider lending your aid to our endeavour, I would be glad to send you what letters we have requisitioned thus far.

Until then, I remain your servant,

I am bound and determined

To write the d--n Sable Valentine. I shall post it privately here. The good news is I'm about 30K into it already. The bad news is that I shall not be revising as I go...and I don't know if I'll get the newspapers up in any fashion. We'll see.

But here goes! I'll post more when I'm back after the first read-through for Curses! which is right...now!

Mood: Good. Overbusy, ergo good.
Music: Pride and Prejudice (the Kiera Knightly version)
